Care Guide

Cotton Fabric:

Cotton is a soft staple fiber that grows around the seeds of cotton plants, which is collected and spun into yarn. However, if cotton is not cared for properly, it can lead to the shrinking or fading of your most loved garments. Also if you wash it with other “cotton+poly” fabrics it will get damaged. 100% cotton should be washed with only 100% cotton fabrics, no mixing.

Follow our guide for more information on how to wash cotton clothes at home, so you can love them for longer.

  • Read the care claims – always read the label before you attempt to wash your cotton garments.
  • Avoid hot water – high temperatures will cause cotton to shrink, so opt for a delicate cycle or a cold wash to avoid your favorite cotton items from shrinking.
  • Flip them inside out – to protect the outside of the garment from the abrasive agitation of the washing process, turn them inside out.
  • Hang them out to dry – for minimal risk of shrinking, you should air dry your cotton fabrics. If you can machine dry them, use a low-to-moderate heat.
  • Banish the wrinkles – one issue with cotton is that it can crease and wrinkle easily. If you choose to iron it, you should iron it while the fabric is somewhat damp.

Embroidered Fabric:

Here’s a quick overview of how to wash embroidered clothing:

  • Check your embroidery and secure any loose threads before washing.
  • For hand washing, soak the embroidered item in water and a mild detergent for 15-20 minutes, then rinse. It’s okay to spot treat any stains, but avoid scrubbing the embroidery directly.
  • For machine washing, opt for cold water, a mild detergent, and run a delicate cycle. Skip any harsh additives like bleach and brighteners. Turn the embroidered item inside out before washing. We don’t recommend machine washing anything with metal zippers as they can snag the embroidery threads.
  • However you choose to wash your embroidered clothing, always remove from the water and air dry immediately. Tumble drying can cause damage embroidery.
  • Do not use chlorine or optical brightening agent.

Silk Fabric:

Hand Washing:

Silk is moisture wicking and naturally anti-microbial, which means you don’t have to wash it as often as you’d wash other fabrics such as synthetics. We’re not suggesting you stop washing your silk pieces altogether, but you probably don’t need to wash them as much as you think you do. Try spot cleaning them where needed and then airing them – silk is a beautifully breathable, natural fibre and so managing your pieces in this way will prolong the time you can go between washes. Of course, it’s also much better for the planet!

We recommend always hand washing your silk Melatonin sleepwear in cool water, this will preserve the life of the garment and the saturation of its color. Always use a specialist silk detergent.

DO NOT MACHINE WASH

We don’t recommend you wash your Silk Melatonin this way, but if you trust your washing machine and usually wash your delicates in it, these are our tips.

It is very important that you use a specialist silk detergent. Non-specialist detergents often contain harsh chemicals that can damage the color and finish of silk garments.

Please choose a gentle ‘hand wash’ cycle and set the temperature to cold. Never wash delicate fabrics over 30°Celsius. The cooler the water the longer the silk will last and the better it will feel coming out of the machine. Avoid using any stain removers.

*This does not apply to dry-clean only items. Always check your care label before washing.
